If someone wished to break into your home, how easy do you think it would be for them? Is your property an easy target for a would-be intruder? Here are a few reasons why someone might find it easy to break into your home:
One thing you should consider is how easy it would be for someone to break into your home without being observed by neighbors or passersby. For example, do you have trees and shrubs, etc. covering your home’s exterior doors and windows? These could provide ample coverage for someone trying to enter your home without being seen. Is there fencing around your property? Although this can be a good burglar deterrent, it may also provide an additional area to hide, depending on the type of fence you have.
Lights work well at discouraging intruders. Ideally, you should have motion sensor lighting fitted to every side of the home’s exterior so that no one is able to approach your home without you noticing. Its also a good idea, if you are going to be away, to leave some lights on inside the house to give the impression you are at home.
If exterior doors and windows are in bad condition they will be easier to break into. Check to see if they are displaying signs of deterioration and fix any issues immediately. As an extra security measure, you could fit window bars or heavy-duty wire screens to ground-level windows. If you do this, however, make sure that anyone inside the home would be able to easily exit these windows if there were an emergency.
Why not inspect your property with the aim of making it less of a target for an opportunistic thief?
