Bed bugs are a problem no one wants in their homes but, in recent years, we have seen a real increase in the number of cases.  The trouble with bed bugs is that they are hard to see, and they can easily be transported from one location to another, this means that you could inadvertently bring them with you from somewhere you have visited.  So, how can you tell if bed bugs are present in a home?

Bed bugs are flat, oval in shape and generally have a rust-colored body which makes them difficult to see, especially when they are first hatched.  Although, as their name suggests, they are found in mattresses and beds the fact is they can actually be found in many different places such as picture frames, curtains, clothing, books and furniture items, etc.

How can you detect the presence of bed bugs? You may notice you have itchy bumps on your skin which could indicate bites from a bed bug.  You would also want to look out for blood spots on the sheets and mattress, stains that occur from their fecal matter and even remnants of the bugs themselves.  You may also notice a musty odor which they are known to emit.

If you discover bed bugs in your home it is not wise to try and treat the problem yourself because you might end up making the problem worse.  Instead, consult with a Pest Management Professional who is trained to deal with this kind of issue and will advise you on how to get rid of them.
