In last month’s blog, we discussed the subject of biological pollutants in the home and how they can pollute your homes inside air. In this blog, we are going to consider biological pollutants and their potential to cause health problems.
Many of the allergy symptoms associated with bio pollutants are remarkably similar to those of numerous other illnesses so, how do you know if these are the cause of your health problems? It goes without saying that your health care physician should be the one to make a correct diagnosis but, before you visit your doctor, it might be helpful to answer the following questions:
Do you suffer from tiredness, headaches, fevers, dry throat, stuffy nose, and trouble breathing, etc.? Do these symptoms usually go away after spending time out of doors?
What are humidity levels like in your home? Do you smell any moldy or musty odors that could suggest you have a moisture intrusion problem? Does water gather on windows, walls, ceilings, or any other hard surfaces?
When did you last clean your humidifiers or air conditioning units? Has it been done recently?
Have you had any energy conservation work recently done such as insulating, weatherstripping, or the installation of storm windows? Did your symptoms start during or after this work? The same question should be asked if you have just moved house.
Are you experiencing any issues with pests like cockroaches, rodents, or insects, etc.?
If you have answered yes to some or all of these questions, then be sure to make mention of it to your doctor as this can help them with making their diagnosis.
