Whether it’s for an entire home or just one room of the house, a new floor can transform a space. However, as well as being pleasing to the eye, a floor also needs to stand up to the demands that your household will put on it. So, how do you decide what flooring is right for you? We are going to look at one type of flooring, laminate, and discuss the pros and cons of choosing this kind of floor.
Laminate is generally comprised of fiberboard with a melamine resin. Much the same as hardwood flooring does, it comes in panels or pieces designed to fit neatly together to make up the floor. Laminate flooring comes in many styles and color options and while most styles have a hardwood effect to them, you can also find them in a marble or granite effect too.
The price is another advantage of laminate flooring as it is often less expensive than a lot of other flooring types. It can be installed relatively easily too. All this means that you could enjoy a brand-new floor at a decent price.
Due to the melamine resin in the laminate, this kind of flooring may contain the chemical formaldehyde. If this is something you are concerned about, however, it is possible to find products with fewer toxins in them, which is something you will want to research.
You should also note that the subfloor needs to be in a good state and very dry before you install laminate floors. If the subfloor is damp the laminate may start to warp or buckle. You will also want to ensure they are installed correctly as this type of flooring can also shift.
