With extremely strong hurricanes and flooding disasters hounding us recently, it’s important to constantly be prepared and to know how to cope with flooding in our homes.  No one wants to be in chaos, so getting back to normal as soon as possible will be a main concern and if your home floods, you will need all the help your can get.  So, what are some steps you would need to take?

While you will want to start clearing up the debris right away, a vital step is to document the damage to your property.  Make sure you take a lot of photos that will give evidence of what has happened.  You will, no doubt, need this evidence later on.

There will be an enormous amount of expense involved in getting your home back to its pre-flood state.  Keep all of your receipts for anything related to the flood.

Something that you should do right away is contact your insurance company.  They may have a time limit for submitting a claim.

If your area has been declared a Major Disaster Zone, then you should get in contact with FEMA, they should be able to provide you with the help you need.

You will also need assistance to assess the damage to your property.  Contact a certified home inspector who can help and advise you on areas that need work, there may be more damage than you realize so this is a vital step to take.

Dealing with natural disasters is not something anyone wants to go through.  Our hearts go out to the many who have been affected by hurricanes recently.
